Regional producers

Diversity is a way of life here: for example, there is the small family business that has been processing fruit and herbs for 30 years - directly from its own garden, which resembles an edible landscape (Blasibauer). There is the culinary tradition: three generations who run an organic farm together at 987 meters above sea level with rare breeds of domestic animals and produce the highest quality (Langnerhof). And there are producers here who make traditional products as well as old natural remedies: For example, a schnapps distillery that not only produces fine brandies from apple, pear and rowan berry, but also a healing pitch ointment (Kremser). Or a beekeeping business with 100 bee colonies, which extracts and processes valuable propolis as well as honey (Fercher).

They and many other producers have reflected on the strengths and traditions of the region and have been bringing the concept of sustainability to life for a long time. Long before it became a trendy term.

Winegrowers in the region

Not only some of the finest wines come from the Hohe Tauern National Park region - but also the highest! At 880 meters above sea level, Ernestine Berger produces top quality on her GrafenBERGERin vineyard in Flattach. She planted the alpine vineyard herself and looks after it alone. You can experience Ernestine Berger's passion for her wine on hikes through the vineyards with her expert guidance and taste it during tastings.

The Holly winery in Obervellach has been cultivating a total of seven different grape varieties since 2018, producing wonderful wines such as Riesling and St. Laurent.

Slow Food Carinthia - Culinary delights

Slow Food Villages - Places of Good Living

There are a total of 11 Slow Food Villages throughout Carinthia. Unsurprisingly, three of these very special places can be found in the Hohe Tauern National Park region of all places.

After all, it is the combination of agriculture and nature that is at the heart of the Slow Food Villages philosophy. For generations, life in the villages has been shaped by the interplay of these two factors.
It is not without reason that the Slow Food Villages also call themselves "places of good living". They recognize the interplay between agriculture and nature as an opportunity. These are particularly valuable assets that need to be handled responsibly. The aim of the Slow Food Villages is to make regional enjoyment visible and tangible. With creative ideas and initiatives relating to the culture of enjoyment.

Obervellach, Berg im Drautal & Irschen have committed themselves to common values, but still rely on their own traditions and strengths.
