If you really want to take it easy, relaxed and in the style of the Hohe Tauern National Park, you can travel in a climate-friendly way by train.

Traveling by train to Mallnitz in Carinthia - a well-known national park location - could hardly be easier and more comfortable. The Mallnitz train station is an ICE station and is served seven times a day by international trains (ICE) from the north and south.

In the Alpine Pearls resort of Mallnitz, soft-mobility vacations are a priority, which of course includes sustainable travel. On site you have a whole range of advantageous offers from various service providers such as shuttle services, public transport or bike or car rentals. There is no more pleasant and compatible way to travel than by train.

"Scenic and individual" on beautiful roads on vacation

Traveling to the Hohe Tauern National Park by car is probably the most promising option. The roads that take you to the Hohe Tauern National Park all lead through magnificent landscapes and breathtaking nature.

Coming from the north, you have several options. The A10 Tauern freeway brings you quickly and directly to the south, but this is also very popular and especially busy at the beginning and end of the vacation weekends. The journey is more individual if you travel through the Gastein Valley and join the car train in Böckstein, which brings you safely and quickly via the car lock to the Mallnitz train station.

Breathtaking views also await you on your journey via the Felbertauern Road through the tunnel of the same name. Coming from the west, it is best to travel via South and East Tyrol through the Puster Valley. From the east, you will reach the Hohe Tauern National Park via the A2 Südautobahn and the Villach junction. Coming from the south, it is probably the SS52 via the Plöckenpass or the A32 via Tarvis and Arnoldstein that will bring you to us.

If you want to go on a bike tour in the National Park region, you are welcome to rent a bike on site.

The National Park Region is part of the Carinthia-wide bike rental system of the company Papin Sport. You can use a cross-regional bike rental system, in which all Carinthian regions are integrated. It is therefore possible to rent a bike in all of Carinthia and return it later at about 50 rental stations throughout the province.

Great offer for leisure cyclists & hikers: From June 3, the ÖBB Tauernsprinter will run once a day on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays from Villach to Mallnitz in the morning and back again in the afternoon. This offer will be extended in the high season (8.7.-10.9.2023): the Tauernsprinter will then run daily for you. A 75-kilometer cycle route to Villach starts from Mallnitz with many interesting stopover options. This new connection is not only ideal for cyclists, but also for hikers and makes for a successful day trip with friends and family!
