Arrival by train

If you want a quiet, calm and relaxed journey and want to travel in a climate-friendly way, it is best to choose the train.

Traveling by train to Mallnitz in Carinthia - a well-known national park town - could hardly be easier or more convenient. Mallnitz train station is an ICE station and is served by international trains (ICE) seven times a day.

In the Alpine Pearls resort of Mallnitz, soft mobility is a priority, which of course includes a sustainable journey. A whole range of advantageous offers from various service providers such as shuttle services, public transport or bike and car rental are available to you on site. "Scenic and individual" on beautiful roads on vacation

Traveling by car to your vacation in the Hohe Tauern National Park is probably the most scenic option, through magnificent landscapes and breathtaking nature.

Coming from the north, you have several options. The A10 Tauernautobahn takes you quickly and directly to the south, although this is also very popular and very busy in the high season. For a more individual journey, travel through the Gastein Valley and join the car train in Böckstein, which will take you safely and quickly via the car lock to Mallnitz train station.

Breathtaking views also await you on the journey via the Felbertauernstraße. Coming from the west, it is best to travel via South and East Tyrol through the Pustertal valley. From the east, you can reach the Hohe Tauern National Park via the A2 Südautobahn and the Villach junction. Coming from the south, it is probably the SS52 over the Plöckenpass or the A32 via Tarvisio and Arnoldstein that will bring you to us.

Offer bike rental in the Hohe Tauern:

If you want to go on a bike tour in the National Park region, you are welcome to rent a bike on site.

The National Park Region is part of the Carinthia-wide bike rental system of the company Papin Sport. You can use a cross-regional bike rental system, in which all Carinthian regions are integrated. It is therefore possible to rent a bike in all of Carinthia and return it later at about 50 rental stations throughout the province.

Offer for leisure cyclists & hikers:

From May 30, the ÖBB Tauernsprinter will run once a day on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays from Villach to Mallnitz in the morning and back again in the afternoon. This offer will be extended in the high season (6.7.-8.9.2024): the Tauernsprinter will then run daily for you.

A 75-kilometre cycle route starts from Mallnitz to Villach with many interesting stopover options. This connection is not only ideal for cyclists, but also for hikers and makes for a successful day trip with friends and family!
