Arrival by car
"Scenic and individual" on beautiful roads on vacation
Traveling by car to the Hohe Tauern National Park region in Carinthia is probably the most scenic way to get there, taking you through beautiful landscapes and breathtaking natural scenery.
If you’re coming from the north, you have several options: The A10 Tauern Autobahn takes you quickly and directly south, though it’s also very popular and heavily trafficked during peak season. For a more personalized journey, drive through the Gastein Valley and board the car train in Böckstein, which will take you safely and quickly via the car ferry to the Mallnitz train station. In summer, you can also use the “Queen of Pass Roads,” the Grossglockner High Alpine Road, for your journey and immediately get a glimpse of the spectacular world of the Hohe Tauern (closed in winter!).
Breathtaking views also await you on the drive along the Felbertauern Road. If you’re coming from the west, the best route is through South and East Tyrol via the Puster Valley. From the east, take the A2 Südautobahn and the Villach interchange to reach the Hohe Tauern National Park region. Coming from the south, you can reach us via the SS52 over the Plöcken Pass (Note: possible closures—please check in advance) or the A32 via Tarvisio and Arnoldstein.
