Preserving this environment while also fostering its continued development is a shared responsibility. As a region, we are therefore taking concrete steps—from protecting our natural environment and promoting regional sustainability to creating new ways to get around without a car.
And you, too, can make a difference during your stay: by making small, mindful choices, showing consideration for nature and wildlife, and appreciating what makes our region so special.
Experiencing Nature Consciously
The Hohe Tauern National Park region is home to a diverse array of flora and fauna—and at the same time, a place we can all enjoy together. By being mindful and considerate as you explore, you can help minimize disturbances to wildlife and sensitive habitats.
Whether you’re hiking, taking a guided tour with a national park ranger, or taking a break by the water, it’s often the little things that make a difference. Stay on designated trails, keep your distance from wildlife and grazing animals, take your trash with you, and treat our natural resources with care.

Whether you’re arriving or going on day trips during your stay, there are various options for getting around by public transportation in the Hohe Tauern National Park region. Train and bus routes, as well as supplemental transportation services, connect numerous towns and attractions throughout the region.
It's best to check for suitable connections and current local offers before you arrive. That way, you can easily combine individual vacation experiences using public transportation.

What We're Doing as a Region
Taking responsibility for a region means not just talking about goals, but taking concrete steps and regularly reviewing progress. Together with municipalities, tourism businesses, and partner organizations, we are working to responsibly develop our region as a place to live and vacation.
In doing so, we focus on issues such as mobility, the protection of nature and resources, regional economic growth, and the further development of tourism offerings. The process of obtaining the Austrian Ecolabel for Tourism Destinations provides us with a clear framework for this.
