ÖBB Tauernsprinter - Summer offer

Direct connection from the city and lake to the Hohe Tauern National Park

Great offer for leisure cyclists and hikers: From July 6 to September 8, the ÖBB Tauernsprinter runs once a day from Villach to Mallnitz in the Hohe Tauern National Park and back again. From May 30, you can also use this offer on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. A 75-kilometer cycle route starts from Mallnitz to Villach with many interesting stopover options. The new connection is not only ideal for cyclists, but also for hikers and makes for a successful day trip with friends and family!

Bike trekking on the Drau cycle path R1

For those who are less interested in altitude meters and like to roll along comfortably in the valley by bike, we recommend our bike paths. The Drau Cycle Path has been designated a 5-star quality cycle path by ADFC and is one of the most beautiful cycle paths in Austria. Between the Lienz Dolomites and the Carinthian lakes, a top-class cycling experience awaits you with lots of nature, recreation and leisurely pleasure cycling tours.

Alpine Highlights on the Glockner Cycle Path R8

Many wonder, "Can there be a comfortable, family-friendly bike path in the high mountains?" There is. With the Glocknerradweg you take a very special "cycling" attraction under your tires and cycle along one of the cleanest rivers in Austria. Highlights along the Glockner Cycle Path:

  • Pilgrimage church of St. Vincent in Heiligenblut
  • Jungfernsprung waterfall near Heiligenblut
  • Gartl waterfall near Großkirchheim
  • Toll tower in Winklern
  • Raggaschlucht gorge in Flattach
  • Groppenstein Gorge near Obervellach
  • Kreuzeck panoramic railroad

In summer there is also a bike bus between Spittal/Drau and Heiligenblut.

By bike to the sea - CICLOVIA Alpe-Adria Cycle Route

The designation "Alpe-Adria" usually stands for something very special; this is also the case with the Alpe-Adria Cycle Path. In one week you can cycle from the Mozart city of Salzburg to Grado by the sea. In the process, you will pass through the Tauern lock to Mallnitz by train and then cross the Hohe Tauern National Park region. The views of the Hohe Tauern will inspire you before you continue cycling across Carinthia and head for the Austrian-Italian border.

Mountain biking in the National Park

On the mountain bike tours of our region, athletes get their money's worth. The Hohe Tauern, above all the 3,798 m high Großglockner, offer an incomparable backdrop for extensive mountain bike tours. More than 25 day tours with a total length of about 250 km and almost 26,000 meters of altitude difference are available. Cyclists look forward to challenging climbs, playful trails and cozy huts.

"The variety surprises us every time. We enjoy sporty mountain biking and also like to go on a racy bike tour during our family vacations.
