The Austrian Ecolabel
ARGE Naturerlebnis Kärnten and the Center for Sustainable Destination Development (NDK) are supporting Carinthia’s tourism regions in their efforts to obtain the Austrian Ecolabel for Destinations. In this process, tourism regions, protected areas, the State of Carinthia, and Kärnten Werbung are working closely together.
The Hohe Tauern National Park region in Carinthia is also seeking certification under the Austrian Ecolabel for Destinations. As part of this process, existing measures are reviewed, additional measures are developed, and ecological, social, and economic aspects of destination development are taken into account.
The 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) provide an important framework for future development.
On the Path to the Austrian Ecolabel
By seeking certification under the Austrian Eco-Label for Destinations, we aim to further strengthen regional cooperation among the tourism sector, municipalities, and partners, and to implement concrete measures for the future development of our region.
The focus is on the development of concrete measures that:
promote the careful use of resources,
strengthen the regional economy,
Secure nature and cultural experiences in the long term and
further improve the quality of tourism offerings and experiences.
This initiative is supported as a project by funding from the EU, the federal government, and EKUZ. Thanks to this funding, the necessary steps in the certification process can be implemented, and cooperation with municipalities, businesses, and other partners can be strengthened.
The Austrian Ecolabel for companies
The Austrian Ecolabel recognizes businesses that meet defined criteria in various areas. Depending on the type of business, these criteria include requirements related to energy and resources, waste, mobility, procurement, and information and communication. Compliance with the respective criteria is verified as part of the certification process.
