In the Hohe Tauern National Park region in Carinthia, the new "Station Hiking" pilot project combines a relaxed journey with impressive moments in nature. In the Upper Drau Valley, various hiking trails start directly at the train stations - ideal for anyone who wants to travel sustainably without missing out on authentic mountain experiences.
No parking stress, no traffic jams - instead: Buy a train ticket, arrive, set off. The "Station Hiking" project was implemented for the first time in the Upper Drau Valley this year. The idea: hiking routes that start directly from train stations such as Oberdrauburg, Dellach or Greifenburg and end there again - perfect for day trips or weekend adventures. Whether along the Drau cycle path, to panoramic high-altitude trails or leisurely through the valley: the region offers tours for connoisseurs and active people alike.
The Hohe Tauern National Park region in Carinthia has always been a pioneer when it comes to sustainable tourism concepts. Station hiking takes this idea a step further: access to nature has never been easier - and without the need for a car. Those who travel by train save CO₂, travel stress-free and can concentrate fully on experiencing nature.
Train station hiking in the Hohe Tauern National Park region in Carinthia offers the right nature experience for everyone - without the need for a car. The tours have been selected so that they are easily accessible by train and cover different needs. All tours start and end directly at a train station - this makes planning particularly easy and opens up new perspectives on a region that you might otherwise only have explored by car.
Short hikes are aimed at connoisseurs, families or anyone who wants to take it easy. These tours take around one to two hours and lead through natural, flat landscapes - for example along rivers, through alluvial forests or to themed trails such as the "Path of the Senses" in Dellach.
Day tours offer a little more exercise, but are usually on well-maintained paths with a moderate elevation profile. Ideal for anyone who wants to spend a whole day in nature without having to cover too many meters in altitude. Tours along the Drau hiking trail or through the idyllic river landscape around Greifenburg are particularly popular.
Summit and alpine hikes appeal to ambitious hikers who are not afraid of altitude. From train stations such as Oberdrauburg, more challenging routes lead to alpine pastures and panoramic heights such as the Jaukenhöhe - with impressive panoramic views of the Drau Valley and the surrounding mountains.
