Grossglockner High Alpine Road

Probably the most beautiful panoramic road in the Alps opens in the anniversary year 2025
before Easter - "Breakthrough at the Hochtor" as the starting signal for the summer season!

The Grossglockner High Alpine Road will be open to traffic again from April 19. 2025 is a very special year - the legendary panoramic road is celebrating its 90th anniversary, has been inspiring visitors with a unique combination of nature experience, engineering skill and tourist attraction since its opening in 1935 and has also been Austria's largest monument for exactly ten years. The legendary "Rotationspflügen - System Wallack" have been in use for 70 years.

Ready for the summer season. As every year, the symbolic breakthrough at the Hochtor (Salzburg-Carinthia border) marks the start of the summer season - this year, earlier than ever before. For the more than 1,000 tourism partners and their vacation guests in the regions north and south of the Hohe Tauern, one of Austria's most important tourist destinations has thus succeeded in reopening earlier than usual for the Easter weekend - also due to the low snowfall in winter. For many, experiencing the snowy landscape of the Hohe Tauern National Park is a special highlight.

Safety first. The through road from Fusch to Heiligenblut is now open to traffic, while the final safety and clearing work on the glacier road to Kaiser-Franz-Josefs-Höhe and Edelweiß-Spitze will continue for a few more days. Reduced tariffs apply until the road is fully open.
