Tips for spring hikes in the Hohe Tauern National Park region

  • Check the weather 🌤️ - Spring can still be unstable in the mountains. Find out about the weather conditions in advance and plan your tour accordingly.
  • Suitable clothing 🥾 - In the valleys it can be pleasantly warm, while at higher altitudes there are still cool temperatures and residual snow. The onion principle and waterproof shoes are ideal!
  • Beware of snow fields ⚠️ - There may still be snow fields in shady areas or on higher paths. Be careful, especially on steep sections.
  • Respect animals and plants 🌿 - Many wild animals have only just survived the winter and need peace and quiet. Stay on marked paths and admire the spring flowers without picking them.
  • Take enough food with you 🥤 - Some huts don't open until later in the spring, so make sure you have enough water and a snack with you.
  • Don't forget sun cream ☀️ - The spring sun can be more intense at high altitudes, especially when it reflects off the snow. Sunglasses and sunscreen are important.
